A Journey into the World of Jane Austen with Miguel Ángel Jordan.

Last December 10th, our school had the pleasure of welcoming Miguel Ángel Jordan, who visited us to give an inspiring talk about the life and work of Jane Austen. The talk was addressed to students of 1st year of Bachillerato and was part of their English and literature learning programme. From the very beginning, Miguel Ángel managed to capture the students’ attention with an engaging and accessible introduction to the historical context in which Jane Austen lived, helping them understand why her novels were so original for their time.

During the session, Miguel Ángel introduced students to the wonderful world of Jane Austen, focusing on her most famous novels, characters and themes. He explained how Austen’s stories go beyond romance and deal with issues that are still relevant today, such as social class, family expectations, women’s independence and personal growth. Through examples and anecdotes, he showed how Jane Austen’s sharp sense of humour and deep understanding of human relationships make her work timeless and enjoyable for readers of all ages. Students listened and showed great interest throughout the talk.

After the talk, students will read an adapted version of Pride and Prejudice in class and later work on a related project which will allow them to explore the novel in more depth while improving their English skills in a creative way. Thanks to Miguel Ángel Jordan’s visit, students now approach Jane Austen’s work with curiosity and motivation, discovering an author whose stories never go out of fashion. It was an enriching experience that successfully connected literature, history and language learning.
