Jane Austen corner

Our 1st Bachillerato students recently explored Jane Austen’s world through a creative project. They read an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and then expressed their ideas in many exciting ways. This project helped them practice English while learning about history, literature, and culture.

The project started with a visit from Miguel Ángel Jordán. He introduced students to Jane Austen’s life, works, and the social context of her novels. His talk inspired students to think about the characters, settings, and themes, preparing them for their own creative projects.

Students explored the story by writing letters between characters and keeping the manners of the period. Some wrote diaries, imagining the daily thoughts of Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and others. Others created wedding invitations, showing their understanding of Regency social customs.

Creativity extended to art and design. Students made house designs and fashion sketches, reflecting 19th-century architecture and clothing. Some prepared recipe books, exploring meals and food from Austen’s England. Each activity combined research with imagination, giving students the opportunity to learn.

The project strengthened language skills while deepening knowledge of history and literature. Students learned about social rules, traditions, and lifestyles of the Regency period. Combining reading, creativity, and research made the novel come alive in a meaningful way.

We are proud of our students’ enthusiasm and imagination. Their projects show how literature can inspire creativity and learning at the same time.
